UPDATE ON Salmon River Hotshot Injuries
I spoke with a family member yesterday who shared good news. The Hotshot had been removed from the ventilator. She walked about 100'. She is improving everyday. Her condition is still very serious, but the outlook is good. Her shoulder is broken into approximately 30 pieces. Her lungs have contusions. Her most immediate threat would be the injuries to her lungs. The long term questions will most likely come from her shoulder injury. All in all, she is lucky to be alive. She is very thankful to all who have helped her.
WINDS!! ?? !!
Where are they? Santa Ana's have not developed here. Every evening, there is a nice warm breeze, but a far cry from a Santa Ana Wind. Our camp is winding down. We are on a glide path for who knows when. It seems they are afraid to land this baby.
At one point we were seeing up to 1500 people per day in the Med Unit. Yesterday we saw 140. Over 50% of the people seen....have colds. I hear them coughing as they walk by.

Hygiene is still an issue...they just don't like to wash anything. It's nasty. The other day we counted 42 people coming out of the blue rooms who didn't wash their hands. In case you don't know what a blue room is......It is a "sani-hut" ... 'toilet" .... "portable john"..... You get the idea. We call them blue rooms because of the blue water that is used to break down the sewage, so it can be sucked up into a truck and hauled away. Some of the Blue Rooms are actually BLUE. But it is the nasty water inside that the blue room is named after. Some blue rooms are cleaner than other blue rooms. Some are so nasty, you don't even want to go inside....you'd rather mess your pants. Some blue rooms are very clean. They are still a public toilet.....nasty. I would think they would go into the blue room only to return to civilization with the desire to scrub the skin from their hands.....but NOOO..*#&##* WAY!!!. I think they savor the thought of the germs they have obtained. I suppose some of the germs make good salad toppings...or change the flavor of their morning coffee. Who knows what they are thinking. Who knows why they insist on keeping these nasty germs as trophies from camp. They are all so eager to take this stuff home to their families. Yuck!
OK...OK...enough! We are still waiting for the winds.
Have wonderfully clean....germ free.....day.
