Night called from the door and the door up and said,
“The hair of my love runs like rum raisin red.
The red of her hair is the red that is bled.”
For the Night dreamed all thirsty for rum raisin red.

“Oh Sally, my Sally, don’t get out of bed,
for I hear someone calling for ‘rum raisin red!’
The thoughts of grim midnight far reach to be led,
and the wind sighs the chanting of ‘rum raisin red!’

Don’t head it, don’t listen! It fills me with dread;
the humming, the singing of ‘rum raisin red!’
Oh Sally, I fear that we soon will be dead,
The voice drawing nearer breathes ‘rum raisin red!’

I hear the words close now, as if from your head,
dripping from lips I’ve kissed, rum raisin red.
