CDF has a small support base set up in Highland (socal). It seems a wall of mud has decided to move into a community. The community doesn't want the mud. 
LA County and CDF has inmate crews digging in the mud...trying to make the mud leave.

It rains a while...then snows... then rain some more. With the high ground water, the gophers don't stand a chance against the team of Labradors set out for a mid-day snack.

One little storm brewing, headed towards the Gulf. There some pretty good wind sheer over the Gulf right now, so it should break apart.

Fire Season 
We are allowed to have burn piles in NorCal now, so I think our chances of seeing any kind of fire activity in the north should be pretty slim. SoCal still has not seen any Santa Ana Wind events.

Fire Season 
It rained ALL NIGHT. There was a tremendous light show throughout the night. The power went out for a while. The Labradors love the mud. I think any chance of a fire in this area was squashed.

Hurricane Weather
There is an area of low pressure near the Virgin Islands. This has a medium chance of becoming a cyclone in the next 48 hours.

Fire Season 
There is quite a bit of lightning in SoCal this morning. There have been a couple of starts, but not a lot of wind. We shall see what today brings.

There was a fire near Hayfork yesterday. Sounds like it was held at ten acres. It was in an area that had potential to grow.

Fuel moistures are way down in NorCal, so fire season is not finished.

Hurricane Weather
Igor is heading west-northwest today. Igor has grown into a very large Cat4 hurricane. The Weather Dudes say it is not going to make landfall in the US. Igor is supposed to turn north in the next couple of days. 

Fire Season 
The Canyon Fire, near Lake Isabella, is being managed by CaIMT 4. I'm not sure what they have set up for a medical unit. Typically, the Central Sierra Team sets up a BLS medical unit. Team 4 actually takes over the fire today. So, maybe ???

A recent weather report called for more intense Santa Ana Winds this year. They are predicted to last until late December, instead of mid November. We'll see.

Igor is heading west-northwest today. Igor has grown into a very large Cat4 hurricane. Predictions show it growing into a Cat5 very soon. The storm behind Igor is called Julia. Julia is a hurricane this morning. There is also a wave of storms just south of Cuba, moving into 90 degree waters. Stay tuned.

The bottom line? 

It's just slow. It's unseasonably cool. It's pretty green in a lot of areas.

Hurricane Weather
Hurricanes are forming...again. Igor is threatening the US Virgin Islands. Igor has grown into a very large Cat4 hurricane. Predictions show it growing into a Cat5 very soon. Igor continues to track west, but is predicted to hook northwest and threaten the East Coast.  The storm behind Igor is called Julia, which is also predicted to get big. There is also a wave of storms just south of Haiti, moving into 90 degree waters. Stay tuned.

Fire Season 
It's just plain SLOW. Some think it is our Government's way of controlling spending. I have heard stories of using the tankers to put the fires out fast, so camps would not be built. I have heard stories of the government actually controlling the weather. One guy even believes we can decide when and where a hurricane makes landfall, by controlling the central pressure of the storm and controlling the wind currents that steer the storm. These powers would also be able to control the winds that affect fires. Some think it's terrorists. Some think it is global warming. Some blame El Nina and or El Nino. I heard someone the other day saying we are headed into a new "ice age". 

I think we got a lot of late rains last winter and spring. Fuel moistures are high. Temperatures are down. Fires are not blowing up, they are moving slow. It is just a slow season.

Hurricanes are forming. Earl is threatening the US Virgin Islands. The storm behind Earl... which would be "Fiona".... is predicted to get big.

Fire Season 
A cold front has lowered the temps in California, so fire behavior will be reduced for a few more days.
