Local News
Wednesday night, we responded to a structure fire. It was a duplex. The fire completely destroyed one half of the building. We were able to stop the fire in the attic just before it spread to the other half of the building.

The cause of the fire was determined to be from the land owner...aka "The Foam Dude". He was spraying "Great Stuff" foam into spaces around some plumbing in the walls and floor. The fumes from the foam finally hit the pilot light on the water heater. BOOM! The entire application of foam was blown deeper into the walls and deeper under the building. Now the foam was on fire.

The Foam Dude tried to put the fire out, but was unsuccessful. Myself, and our youngest department member, were the first firefighters on the scene with equipment. We each had a hose and attacked the fire through a sliding glass door. By this time, the fire was rolling out from under the eaves, igniting the smoke in large flashes. We were able to sit low to the ground, staying under the flames.

The fire vented itself through the roof, so the spread of the fire was slowed dramatically. Frontline's very own...James... was able to knock some blocks out from between the rafters, under the eaves, and get water into the attic. This stopped the spread.

All in all.... we stopped the fire from destroying the entire building and no one got hurt. I got a little foam in my eye, but it was rinsed out and I was able to continue. the entire event took about 6 hours.

Have a great day.

ps. Toaka says..... "Wooo Hooo!! Dad's home!...???...???... Oh gosh, you smell like smoke!"
