I think spring is here....finally.


The grass is really starting to grow. The horses are much happier. The frogs are singing in the meadow. The geese are dancing their love dances and looking for a place to nest. Soon it will be hot and we will all want cooler temps. I guess we are never really content with what the Weather Dude presents to us.


We are getting ready for fire season. We are repairing damaged equipment. Soon we will be handing out GoldBond and eating that fine camp food. I am anxiously looking forward to my first sack lunch (2 sandwiches, 2 juices, a candy bar, a cookie, a piece of fruit, a piece of cheese, ....maybe a frozen burrito). Yum.

****SET YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD ONE HOUR****


Daylight savings time. Originally set in place to save money during World War One. It was supposed to reduce the consumption of oil. They used oil to make electricity.  After WW1, the United States stopped recognizing DST. During WW2 we started up again..... and it stuck. Now we have to adjust our clocks every 6 months. 


Sooo.... tonight the sun will stay up a little longer.... well, not really.... it will just seem like it. The time is the only part of the day that changed. The earths rotation around the sun has not changed. Unless you talk to the Earthquake Dudes in Chile. They say the recent earthquake in Chile shortened the day by one thousandth of a second.... something like that.


Anyways.... Spring is right around the corner and soon we will be complaining about the heat of summer. So enjoy today.... clean your BBQs... think about what you want to plant in your gardens....

Not a cloud in the sky today!! Grass is sprouting!! Birds are singing!! You'd think spring was here.  "Nay Nay" says The Weather Dude. He says it is supposed to snow tomorrow. ??? Snow??? Tomorrow??  We'll just wait and see. Today we will enjoy the sunshine.


Fire season is inching closer. I was asked yesterday what I thought. So.... I rubbed my Magic Genie Lamp and found this out. Fire season will start sometime after May 3rd.  It will end sometime before December 12th.  There will be fires in both Northern and Southern California during this period. One of the fires in Northern California will burn for at least three days. One of the fires in Southern California will burn for at least five days. The morning briefings will begin at 0600am.  At least 37 firefighters will be plagued with Poison Oak. Two of these fire fighters will tough it out and not use any medications. The Magic Lamp says... one crew will refuse to shower, one crew will shower only when they leave the fire. There will be a compliance rate of approximately 53% for hand-washing before a meal is eaten.  And finally..... at least one person will decide to go to work at Home Depot, instead of enduring another fire season. I will ask the Magic Lamp about the upcoming hurricane season, and let ya'll know what the Magic Lamp says.


The Oscars will be awarded tonight. They say "Hurt Locker" and "Avatar" are the two favorites for Best Picture. I hope Hurt Locker gets it. Avatar is mostly animated. At least Hurt Locker is real.

More snow. 

Yesterday it started snowing just as the sun came up. The bulk of the storm had passed by 1pm.... but not before dumping close to a foot of .... fresh beautiful white stuff... on the ground. Yes... I had to plow... again. By 3pm, the sun was melting the white stuff pretty fast. The Weather Dude says there is a 40% chance of snow throughout the week-end. Oh boy.


The dogs love the snow. They run and roll.... and run some more.... roll some more. It seems they find an excuse to go outside almost every hour. 


The horses hate it. They stand mostly in one spot. They almost refuse to go to the barn for food. They want it brought to them. I'm sure they want a silver platter as well.


Not much else going on..... American Idol is  on the tele again. Simon seems to be a little less harsh this season. 


The Amazing Race is.... well.... it is a race. They all bicker with each other, and plot against each other. It's still kind of fun to watch.

I'm kinda glad the Olympics are finished. I was getting a little tired of hearing about Lindsey Vonn.
