**Also have placed four crews on stand-by for barge support camps**
METAIRIE, La. - BP's underwater robots have succeeded in shearing through the pipe atop a blown-out well in the Gulf of Mexico, the top U.S. official overseeing the cleanup said on Thursday.
BP had to use the shears after a diamond-tipped saw became stuck in the pipe halfway through the job. It won't be known how much oil BP can siphon to the surface until the cap is fitted, but the irregular cut means that the fit won't be as snug as officials had hoped.
The next chance for stopping the flow won't come until two relief wells meant to plug the reservoir for good are finished in August.
FRONTLINE PERSONNEL STILL STANDING-BY
As the clock ticks and tocks, Frontline Personnel are still ready to deploy. Everyday we receive calls inquiring what our availability is. Everyday our story is the same. The proposals have become easy to prepare. It is still felt by most, we will respond. It is just a matter of when we will respond. One source told me yesterday, support locations are being developed and prepared to be in place for 4 to 10 years.
Oil is still inching its way toward Florida's white sand beaches.
Large sand berms have been approved for Louisiana.
Oil continues to pour into the Gulf.....
