Toaka UPDATE
Toaka is improving everyday. This is a long road. Week one is complete....11 more weeks of being on a leash.

Toaka UPDATE
It's official. Toaka is thoroughly tired of being confined to a pen. She said she wanted to go to work at 0430 today with Ken. She would love to scope out a donut truck. She thinks that would just swell.
Toaka's hair is already beginning to grow back.

Toaka UPDATE
Today we watched the deer run away. Toaka wanted to chase them, but stayed composed. She let out a disgruntled "woof" and continued about her business.
She seems to be putting more weight on her leg everyday.

Toaka UPDATE
Today we start cutting back on the pain medication. She was able to walk all the way to the barn this morning. She was very happy to help feed the ponies.

Toaka UPDATE
Toaka is starting to put a little more weight on her leg. She has become way tired of the sling we put around her belly to support her weight. She is getting some her bossiness back. She promptly tells Godiva to get away from her pen. She was very happy yesterday...her Dad snuck a french fry into her pen.

Toaka UPDATE
Toaka is medicated with pain meds. She is very happy to be home. Her Uncle Malcolm visited yesterday, she was glad about that. She has a crate and a small pen area right next to the wood stove. We have to use a sling of sorts to support her hips when she goes out to do her business. She says we can post a picture just as soon as she is cleaned up a bit more. She doesn't like the way the drugs make her eyes droop.

Nov 9 - Toaka Update
Toaka UPDATE
Toaka had surgery yesterday afternoon. The Doctor Dude said everything went "textbook", and her prognosis is very good.
She was able to come home today. She doesn't like the fact she is confined to a crate. She doesn't like the idea of a diet. In fact, she pretty much hates all of this.

East Coast UPDATE
The wheels of the Federal Government turn very slow sometimes......well... all the time. Actually we kind of hope we don't get shot straight out of the gun right away. The support camps that get set up several days into an incident are usually more long term. We are still in a wait and see mode.
Toaka UPDATE
Toaka is scheduled for surgery next week. She did not like being at the doctor's office yesterday. She must remain leashed when she goes outside. She is not supposed to jump, run, or play. She is NOT happy. Because of the reduction in activity, she has been placed on a strict snack free diet.
Toaka says...
"Now that's it ! I'm really upset ! NO SNACKS???!!!!"

East Coast UPDATE
There is a chance FEMA will be setting up support bases on the East Coast. This is not fast process, as a support base is designed to be there long after the initial rescue operations. The East Coast this time of year presents other challenges we are not normally faced with. As more information becomes available, I will post here and send text messages to Frontline Personnel that may get utilized.
Toaka UPDATE
Toaka has her first appointment with a Canine Orthopedic Surgeon today. There are three surgical procedures to choose from. Today we will hopefully determine which procedure we will have done. Toaka's spirits are at an all time low. She does not like being confined to a leash. She does not like being isolated from the other dogs. She does like her couch time with Dad though. Toaka says THANK YOU!! for all the prayers and support.
